Free semester pilot

Pilot FAQ

Plain answers for curriculum directors, principals, and teachers evaluating the no-cost offer.

Does this pilot cost anything?

No. There is no invoice, no purchase order, and no auto-renew. If you want to keep using the curriculum after the semester, we can talk about a site license then — but the pilot itself is free.

What is included in the pilot?

One school, one grade band (K-2, 3-5, or 6-8; high school is not included), for one semester. You get the full teacher edition, student lessons, assessments, family letters, printable materials, and differentiation guidance for that band. High school is not part of this pilot. AI foundations 9-12 is public at /c/ai-foundations.

How can our schools use the materials?

In regular class time, after-school enrichment, or as send-home family letters. The school may post pilot PDFs on a school-controlled site for its own community (staff, students, and families). If the pilot ends without a paid license, posted pilot PDFs must be taken down within 30 days. You do not need a special platform or student logins.

What feedback do you require?

We ask for short input from 2–5 volunteer teachers (~4 minutes after units 2 and 4), one administrator check-in mid-semester (~10 minutes), and an optional 2-question parent pulse if family letters go home. We are not collecting student work or student names. Forms: teacher, administrator, family.

Do you collect student data during the pilot?

No. Students do not create accounts or submit anything to Schoolhouse. Lessons are web pages and printable PDFs. See our privacy policy and DPA pack if your office wants documentation.

Is it aligned to Virginia standards?

Yes. Every lesson maps to VA Computer Science SOL and VDOE AI guidance in the source files. The crosswalk at /standards is generated from those files — you can verify it, not just take our word.

Do we need procurement approval for a free pilot?

Because there is no payment, most divisions treat this as a curriculum trial without a PO. If your policy still requires a memo, we can provide a one-page pilot summary. For paid licenses later, see procurement.

Do teachers need a computer science background?

No. Teacher guides include pacing, discussion questions, and facilitation notes written for generalist teachers. K-2 units can be taught unplugged — no student devices required.

What happens when the semester ends?

Nothing automatic. Access from the pilot ends unless you choose to license. There is no auto-bill. If the pilot ends without a paid license, posted pilot PDFs must be taken down within 30 days. If the pilot was useful, we will share standard site-license pricing — flat per school or division, not per student.
