Generative Media Studio · Capstone brief
GEN-08 · Exhibition disclosure
Design wall text and optional QR disclosure for a student show that includes generative work — then test whether visitors understand what was AI-assisted.
The question
Design wall text and optional QR disclosure for a student show that includes generative work — then test whether visitors understand what was AI-assisted.
Studio / materials
One real or mock exhibition context (hallway show, magnet showcase, online gallery). Three disclosure treatments varying one variable (placement, length, or medium: wall vs QR). At least eight visitors who are not in the class, each seeing one treatment. Comprehension questions written in advance.
Expected failure modes
Asking “did you like the art?” instead of “what was generated?” Varying three things at once. Using only art-kids as visitors. Declaring statistical victory from eight people.
Done looks like
Three treatments; comprehension results as counts; quoted misunderstandings; the treatment your show will adopt and why; sample-limit sentence.
Five C's
CT: comprehension ≠ compliance. CR: fair single-variable test. CO: visitors are the instrument. CM: wall text. CZ: the visitor who mis-credits a student or a model.
Mentor role
Gallery educator, design teacher, or curator-adviser reviews treatments before testing. School-supervised.
Rubric calibration
R1: one show, one variable. R2: procedure recorded. R3: comparator is no disclosure or current practice. R4: limits stated. R5: adopted text is ready to print. R6: refuses generalizing from eight visitors.
Two ways this goes wrong
(a) “Did you see the QR?” as the only question. (b) Percentages from eight people presented as audience research.
